Naxalbari, 29th September: An elderly man, Bidyanand Roy, went missing after being swept away by the Mechi River while returning home from selling milk last Friday. The incident occurred near the Indo-Nepal border in the Bara Maniram Jote area of Naxalbari.

For the past two days, local police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been conducting search and rescue operations, but the missing man could not be located. On Sunday, Arun Ghosh, the Sabhadhipati of the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad, along with the Chairperson of the Naxalbari Panchayat Samiti, panchayat pradhans, and members, visited the family.

During the meeting, family members were distressed, breaking down in tears upon seeing the officials. It was reported that the elderly man had been involved in the milk trade in Nepal for the past 35 years. He was swept away by the river while returning home on Friday.

The officials assured the family of their support during this difficult time. Sabhadhipati Arun Ghosh advised residents living near the riverbank to refrain from crossing the river until the situation is stable. The search efforts continue as the community rallies around the family in their time of need.
