Elderly man killed in elephant attack while collecting firewood in Salugara forest

Siliguri, 18th December: An elderly man lost his life in a tragic incident involving an elephant attack in the Salugara forest, adjacent to 5 Mile Bengal Safari. The deceased has been identified as Fegu Hemram, a resident of Vedgara in the Bhakti Nagar police station area.


According to reports, Fegu Hemram had gone to the forest to collect firewood, a routine he undertook daily. It was during this activity that he was suddenly attacked by an elephant.

Upon receiving news of the incident, a team from the Salugara Forest Department rushed to the scene. The man was immediately transported to Siliguri District Hospital. Tragically, doctors at the hospital pronounced him dead on arrival.


The body has been sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The Salugara Forest Department and Bhakti Nagar police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter.
