Siliguri, 12th October: Tension gripped the Kalaram Jote area of Phansidewa after allegations were upheld against an elderly man for attempted sexual assault of a two-and-a-half-year-old minor girl. The locals apprehended the accused and handed him over to the police. The accused was identified as Phulen Roy (78).
According to reports, on Wednesday, the local residents heard the girl’s voice from a house. Following this, when they looked inside the house, they spotted Phulen Roy attempting the heinous crime on the minor. Subsequently, the residents apprehended him and informed the police.
Upon receiving the news, the police arrived at the spot, apprehended the accused, and took him to the police station. In this regard, the locals claimed that the elderly man was mentally challenged and had committed similar incidents earlier. They have demanded stringent punishment for the accused.
Meanwhile, the minor was transported to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for a medical examination. On Thursday, the accused was produced before the Siliguri Divisional Court for legal proceedings.
