Siliguri, 21st March: In a significant breakthrough in a bicycle theft case, police recovered eight stolen bicycles and arrested a youth from the Surya Sen Colony area late Friday night. The operation was carried out by plainclothes personnel from NJP police station. The arrested youth has been identified as Shib Choudhury.
According to police sources, acting on specific intelligence inputs, surveillance was being conducted in the area. A suspicious youth was spotted moving around with multiple bicycles, following which he was detained. Upon search, a total of eight stolen bicycles were recovered from his possession.
Police suspect that the accused may be linked to a larger network. It has also been noted that Shib Choudhury has previously been arrested in multiple bicycle theft cases.
The accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Saturday. Police have also initiated efforts to trace the rightful owners of the recovered bicycles. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
