Siliguri, 09th April: Questions were raised over the Election Commission’s ‘Wall of Democracy’ banner in Siliguri after two youths used the platform to express their dissent, triggering debate in the city.
The banner, installed near the main gate of the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court, was intended to provide citizens with an opportunity to write and share their views. However, the initiative drew attention when the youths penned critical remarks against the Election Commission.
According to sources, the two individuals are associated with the Students’ Federation of India (SFI). They questioned the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, alleging that lakhs of names were being wrongfully removed from the voter list and expressing concerns over the Commission’s neutrality.
Amid the criticism, a lawyer also wrote in support of the Election Commission on the same banner. He stated that the SIR process aims to remove illegal infiltrators from the electoral rolls and described it as a necessary and justified measure.
