Siliguri, 28th December: With the beginning of the new year, totos (e-rickshaws) without number plates will be restricted on the main roads of Siliguri.
Reportedly, e-rickshaws with TIN Number and Permanent Number will not be allowed to ply on the main roads including Hillcart Road, Bidhan Road, Sevoke Road.
The move comes after several totos without number plates were spotted in the past few months. Due to this, traffic congestion has also increased significantly in the city. Hence, the newly appointed Commissioner of Siliguri Police Commissionerate D. P. Singh is closely looking into the issue.
According to police sources, if any totos (e-rickshaws) without number plates is spotted on the main roads from January 01, strict action will be taken against them by the traffic police. Besides, all e-rickshaws will be banned on national and state roads. As of now, the announcement is being spread all across the city with the help of miking.
As per the report, Tourism Minister Goutam Deb held a meeting with District Magistrate Shashank Sethi at Manik Tourist Lodge of Siliguri today. Several issues including the traffic congestion were discussed in the said meeting. The Tourism Minister maintained that he will be holding a discussion with the Transport Department as well as the Police Department next month.
