Siliguri, 05th February: Police arrested an e-rickshaw thief and recovered the stolen vehicle within three hours of the incident in Siliguri, following swift action by the Pradhan Nagar police station.
The accused has been identified as Uttam Sutrodhar, a resident of Dasharathpally. According to police sources, the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon when Ramzan Ali parked his e-rickshaw near the former SJDA office close to Siliguri Junction and went to a hotel for lunch. On returning, he found the e-rickshaw missing.
The owner immediately lodged a written complaint at Pradhan Nagar police station. Acting on the complaint, plainclothes police launched a prompt investigation and detained Uttam Sutrodhar from the Dasharathpally area on suspicion.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to committing the theft. Based on his statement, police recovered the stolen e-rickshaw later that night from a deserted spot in the Regulated Market area.
Police said the case was solved within three hours of the theft. The accused was produced before the Siliguri court on Thursday. Further investigation is underway to determine whether others are involved in the e-rickshaw theft racket.
