Siliguri, 01st February: The NJP police have arrested two individuals in connection with the assault and robbery of an e-rickshaw (toto) driver. The accused, identified as Amardeep Soni and Mohammad Ali Raja, are residents of the NJP area.
According to reports, Sariful Hussain, an e-rickshaw driver from Jotiakali, was returning home after dropping off passengers at NJP late on Friday night. Two youths arrived on a scooty in the DS Colony area, which is a short distance from the NJP police station, and stopped Hussain’s toto. They allegedly beat him up before taking him to the NJP Netaji More area, where they robbed him of Rs 2,000 and a mobile phone before fleeing the scene.
Sariful Hussain filed a written complaint with the NJP police station on Friday. Acting on the complaint, the police arrested the two robbers from the NJP Railway Hospital More on the same night, recovering cash from them. However, the mobile phone was not recovered.
Police sources indicate that the two accused have been involved in criminal activities for a long time. The arrested individuals were presented before the Jalpaiguri court on Saturday. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
