Siliguri, 31st January: A scuffle between an e-rickshaw driver and traffic police was reported on Bidhan Road in Siliguri. The driver was taken into custody by the Panitanki Outpost police following the altercation.
According to reports, the auto driver was standing near the Gostha Pal Statue and picking up passengers when traffic police instructed him to move his vehicle. This resulted in a dispute between the traffic police and the auto driver over this and escalated into a physical altercation.
Reportedly, the driver allegedly raised his hand against the traffic police, though he denied the claim. Upon being confronted regarding this, he stated that his hand might have brushed against the police during the scuffle but he did not strike anyone. The driver also accused the traffic police of forcibly pulling him out of his vehicle.
The Panitanki Outpost police arrived at the scene and took the auto driver into custody. The incident is currently being investigated.
