Siliguri, 05th August: Dumdum Police have finally apprehended the absconding and malicious accused who defrauded students of lakhs of rupees by deceitfully promising them job placements and admission to top-notch colleges. The arrest took place late on Friday night in the Ghogomali area with assistance from the Ashighar Outpost Police of Siliguri Metropolitan Police. The detained individual’s name is Satya Narayan Banerjee, and he hails from Lucknow.
According to reports, Satya Narayan Banerjee established an office in Dumdum in 2022, where he managed to collect approximately Rs 26 lakh from four students under the pretense of securing their admission to a medical college. Subsequently, he allegedly absconded, prompting the aggrieved students to file a complaint with the Dumdum police station. Consequently, the Dumdum police had been diligently searching for Banerjee for an entire year.
Coincidentally, Banerjee arrived in Siliguri and opened another office, this time promising job opportunities. He further advertised this new venture in the newspapers, unknowingly sealing his own fate. The vigilant Dumdum police noticed the advertisement while continuing their search for the accused. Subsequently, they reached out to the Siliguri Metropolitan Police and traveled to Siliguri on Friday. With the cooperation of the Ashighar Outpost Police, they successfully arrested the fugitive Satya Narayan Banerjee after an entire year of pursuit. The Dumdum police plan to present the accused to the Jalpaiguri court and then transport him back to Dumdum after securing the necessary transit remand today.
