Drugs worth crores and 17 lakh cash seized in Bagdogra, three arrested

Siliguri, 1st August: In a joint operation, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Siliguri Metropolitan Police and the Bagdogra police station achieved a significant success in curbing drug smuggling. The team seized narcotics worth crores of rupees and 17 lakhs in cash. In addition to this, three drug peddlers were also arrested in the operation who were later identified as Raju Sheikh, Goutam Mondal, and Bharata Mondal, all residents of Kaliachak.


Acting on a tip-off, the team launched a campaign in the Bhuttabari area of Bagdogra. During this, they intercepted a four-wheeler and proceeded to search it. 893 grams of brown sugar and 17 lakhs rupees in cash were found concealed within the vehicle. The police immediately seized the four-wheeler and arrested its occupants.

Investigations have revealed that the arrested individuals had planned to transport the seized brown sugar from Malda to Siliguri. The accused were presented before the Siliguri Divisional Court today, and the police are actively conducting an in-depth investigation into the matter.
