Naxalbari, 08th February: Naxalbari police foiled a planned drug trafficking operation late on Saturday night and arrested one alleged drug peddler before the delivery could take place. The incident occurred in the Rathkhola area under Naxalbari police station.
According to police sources, specific intelligence was received about a planned delivery of narcotics along the Naxalbari state road on Saturday night.
Acting on the tip-off, police intensified patrolling in the area. During the patrol, a man was spotted moving suspiciously, prompting police to stop and search him.
During the search, police recovered 100 grams of brown sugar and 15 bottles of banned cough syrup from his possession. The accused was arrested on the spot.
The arrested person has been identified as Sanjay Sahani, a resident of the Gaur Singh Jote area under Panitanki.
Police said the accused has been involved in the drug trade for a long time. His wife had earlier also been arrested in connection with drug trafficking cases.
The accused will be produced before a Siliguri court on Sunday. Police have launched a detailed investigation to trace the entire drug trafficking network linked to the case.
