Naxalbari, 27th December: A drug smuggler was apprehended before a drug exchange could take place at Rathkhola More in Naxalbari. The accused, identified as Sunnyvale Sheikh, a resident of Kaliachak in Malda, was found in possession of 205 grams of morphine.
The arrest was made by jawans of the SSB’s 41st Battalion during routine patrols on the Asian Highway near Rathkhola More. Upon noticing a suspicious individual, the jawans conducted a search, leading to the recovery of the morphine.
SSB sources revealed that the accused had transported the morphine from Malda and was waiting at the Rathkhola More waiting room to hand it over. The SSB handed him over to Naxalbari police for further investigation.
Sunnyvale Sheikh was later produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Friday. Police are conducting a detailed investigation into the incident.
