Kharibari, 10th July: A significant drug bust occurred in Kharibari as authorities arrested a drug peddler attempting to smuggle brown sugar valued at approximately one and a half crore rupees. The accused, identified as Rahmat Sheikh from Murshidabad, was apprehended by the jawans of the 41st battalion of the SSB.
Acting on a tip-off, the SSB personnel arrested Sheikh in Ramdhan Jote of Kharibari. Upon searching, they recovered 1 kg 730 grams of brown sugar. The SSB then handed over the suspect to the Kharibari police.
The accused was presented at the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Wednesday. Police have initiated an investigation to identify other individuals involved in the drug smuggling operation.
