Drowning incident claims railway worker’s life in Siliguri

Siliguri, 16th August: A railway worker met a tragic fate on Independence Day as he lost his life by drowning in a river while taking a bath at the Ambari Karatoya Barrage in Rajganj. The deceased, identified as Shubhankar Das (37) and a resident of Ward No. 36 in Siliguri, was accompanied by a friend and a relative.


While bathing, Shubhankar Das tragically succumbed to drowning in the river. The news of his untimely demise cast a pall of sorrow over his family, who were left in a state of distress and grief. The body is scheduled to be taken home following the completion of the postmortem examination.

Amid the grief, speculation has arisen within the family about potential underlying mysteries surrounding the incident. The deceased’s sister expressed her intention to file a complaint at the Ambari Outpost in this regard. Notably, Shubhankar Das was employed as a yard master at the NJP station in Siliguri. Having lost his wife a few years prior, he had recently finalized his plans for remarriage, with the official registration set for the upcoming month.
