Driver organisations meet Siliguri Mayor over harassment in hill regions

Siliguri, 15th December: Representatives of various driver organisations met Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb on Monday, alleging harassment of plains drivers operating vehicles in the hill areas and seeking an early resolution to the issue.

The meeting was held at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation conference hall, where the representatives highlighted repeated instances of harassment and difficulties faced by drivers while travelling to hill regions.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Mayor Gautam Deb said the driver organisations had earlier submitted written complaints, but he was out of the city at that time. After returning, he convened the meeting to hear all concerns in detail.

The mayor stated that such incidents are unacceptable and assured that the matter is being addressed through dialogue. He said he has already spoken with officials of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) to resolve the issue amicably.

Gautam Deb added that if the problem persists, it could affect not only drivers but also tourists visiting the hills. He assured that necessary steps are being taken to restore normalcy and ensure smooth transport movement.
