DRI arrest two with gold biscuits worth Rs 2.6 crore in Siliguri

Siliguri, 31st October: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) successfully busted a gold smuggling racket after conducting an operation near Fulbari based on a tip-off.


Two people carrying around 5 kg of gold were arrested during the camp. A vehicle being used by the smugglers has also been seized. The accused have been identified as Bua Myung Jahangir and Shaheedul Rahman. Both are said to be residents of Manipur. 

According to information received from DRI sources, 30 gold biscuits were hidden in a car bearing Assam number plate (AS-01-EJ-3564) by the duo who was set to smuggle the gold into Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh via Indo Myanmar border. But before they could do so, the DRI team conducted a campaign and detained the vehicle near Fulbari and recovered the said items. 


Both the accused have been produced in Siliguri court today. The market value of the seized gold is estimated to be Rs 2.6 crore. The duo has been sent to judicial custody for 4 days. The DRI is further investigating the entire case.
