Siliguri, 21st July: The BJP-led NDA’s candidate Draupadi Murmu has become the 15th President of India. Congratulating her, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista released a statement on Thursday. He stated that Murmu’s election to the post of President of India symbolizes how far the country has come in terms of ‘Women Empowerment’ and emancipation of citizens.
The MP’s statement read:
I join the people from Darjeeling hills, Terai, Dooars and the entire nation in congratulating and celebrating H.E Draupadi Murmu ji as the next President of our great nation.
As our nation celebrates “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” it is a matter of great pride and joy that our nation will have a President with many firsts. She will be the first President to be born after independence, and she will be the first President who belongs to the Scheduled Tribe. She has extensive administrative experiences, and shined as the first woman Governor of Jharkhand. In becoming a Governor, she became the first tribal and woman leader from Odisha to have been appointed as governor to any state.
In 2007, she was awarded with the Neelkanth Award for being the Best Legislator by the Odisha Legislative Assembly, showcasing her administrative excellence. Her election to the post of President of India symbolizes how far our nation has come in terms of ‘Women Empowerment’ and emancipation of citizens from some of the remotest parts of our nation.
Despite facing personal tragedies that include losing her husband and her children, she has remained an epitome of inspiration, especially for a tribal region like ours. Her ascension as the President of India will further inspire youths from regions like ours to aspire further and aim higher.
