Siliguri, 22nd September: Since 2011, the Dooars Forum has been constantly demanding for an alternative Sevoke Bridge. However, for the past few months, they avoided taking their demand to the streets in view of the ongoing pandemic.
As the situation normalized to some extent, the organization members once again started raising voices in support of the said demand. They warned of staging larger demonstrations if their demands are not met soon.
Several people insist that the 79-year-old Coronation Bridge needs to be repaired as soon as possible, considering its importance in means of road communication between Siliguri and Dooars. Multiple freight vehicles ply through the already dilapidated bridge on a regular basis. Besides, landslides in the hills are creating extreme difficulties for the people of Dooars to travel.
Dooars Forum, since 2011, has been launching movements in demand for an alternative bridge. Despite approaching various quarters in this concern, no necessary steps have been taken so far.
Addressing the media, Organization Secretary Chandan Roy stated that they would stage a sit-in protest in Malbazar on September 24. Besides, multiple other programmes will be carried out in this regard.
