Siliguri, 12th August: A widespread strike by doctors has been declared throughout West Bengal, including in Siliguri, in response to the assault and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Doctors at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) have been on strike since Monday morning, as junior doctors staged a sit-in protest in front of the medical emergency department.
The incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has sparked outrage among the medical community, leading to demonstrations and calls for justice. As a result, OPD services at NBMCH have been suspended, though emergency services remain operational.
Protesting doctors are demanding a judicial investigation into the case, and are calling for enhanced security measures for doctors across all hospitals and medical colleges in the state. Meanwhile, the strike has caused significant inconvenience to patients and their families at NBMCH.
