Siliguri, 18th January: A violent clash broke out between two groups in the Tulsi Nagar area under Matigara police station in Siliguri over a religious issue, resulting in multiple injuries. Several injured individuals were rushed to Siliguri District Hospital for treatment.
According to sources, the dispute began over a local temple and quickly escalated within minutes, leading to stone pelting between the groups. The situation created panic among residents of Tulsi Nagar and the nearby area.
Following the incident, a large contingent of police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were deployed to the area to restore order. Police have appealed to both groups to maintain peace and urged residents to remain calm.
Local residents alleged lapses in initial police deployment, claiming that law enforcement was present but not stationed effectively during the escalation. They demanded strict action against the perpetrators and continuous monitoring in the area.
Currently, police picketing in Tulsi Nagar has been strengthened, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further incidents.
