Siliguri, 06th February: A dispute over money for drugs led to the death of a drug-addicted youth at the hands of his father in Siliguri’s Naresh More area. The deceased has been identified as Nimai Pal. Police have arrested the accused father, Nilkantha Pal, in connection with the incident.
According to police sources, Nimai Pal had been addicted to drugs for several years and often created disturbances at home. He was allegedly involved in frequent altercations and had earlier assaulted his parents under the influence of drugs. On Thursday night, the youth reportedly demanded money from his father to buy drugs. When the demand was refused, he allegedly attacked his parents.
This led to a physical altercation between the father and son, during which Nimai Pal reportedly fell and sustained a severe head injury. He later succumbed to his injuries.
After receiving information, police reached the house, recovered the body and sent it to Siliguri District Hospital. The post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) on Friday. Police have arrested Nilkantha Pal and launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
Family members and neighbours stated that several attempts were made over the years to help the youth overcome his addiction, including sending him to rehabilitation centres, but all efforts failed.
