Delhi Crime Branch arrests a member of car theft gang from Siliguri

Siliguri, 16th January: The Delhi Crime Branch arrested a member of a car theft gang from Siliguri. The arrested accused has been identified as Ali Akbar Shaikh, a resident of an area under the Matigara Police Station.


As per information received from the Delhi Crime Branch team, a written complaint of vehicle theft was lodged in a police station in Delhi on 26 November of the previous year. However, the vehicle was untraced even after a month into the incident.

Subsequently, the responsibility to nab the car theft gang was handed over to the Delhi Crime Branch. During the investigation, a thief who was involved in incidents of car theft in Delhi was arrested and taken on remand. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that a car theft network is active between Delhi and Siliguri.


Promptly, the Delhi Crime Branch team traced the mobile tower location of Ali Akbar Shaikh, a member of the car theft gang, which indicated Siliguri. Following this, the Crime Branch team arrested the accused in collaboration with the Matigara police station. On Tuesday, the accused was produced before the Siliguri court and taken on transit remand to Delhi.
