Bagdogra, 24th May: A deer was rescued from the Daragaon area of Bagdogra early Sunday morning after it wandered into the locality from a nearby forest.
According to local sources, the animal had been roaming around the area since late Saturday night, causing concern among residents. On Sunday morning, locals informed the area’s Panchayat member, who subsequently alerted the Bagdogra Forest Department.
Forest personnel reached the spot and carried out a rescue operation that lasted for nearly half an hour. During the operation, one forest worker reportedly sustained injuries after being bitten by the deer.
Forest Department sources said the deer is believed to have strayed into the human settlement from the nearby Bagdogra forest in search of food. The rescued animal will be released back into the deep forest after undergoing a health examination.
