An earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 6.4 struck the districts of Jajarkot and West Rukum leading to about 132 fatalities and several injured. Rescue operations are being conducted amidst the steep areas affected by the calamity as the death toll is anticipated to rise.
According to reports, the devastating earthquake shook the northern Nepal area on Friday night at around 11:47 PM. Significantly, the tremors of the earthquake were experienced in the northern regions of India, including Delhi-NCR. Survivors reported witnessing buildings collapse into debris in the impacted region.
Following the calamity, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ headed towards the affected area along with the medical team on Saturday morning. Meanwhile, officials from the Nepal Army and Nepal Police have been called upon to assist in the rescue operations.
In this regard, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed anguish over the deaths and destruction brought about by the earthquake in the X handle. He further reaffirmed that India is prepared to offer all available support to its neighboring nation.
