Siliguri, 19th February: The Uttar Banga Safai Karmachari Samiti has been protesting for a long time in support of several demands. Due to the strike, the city’s cleanliness work has been discontinued and the common people are facing trouble due to the stench from the untended garbages. Today is the third day of the strike.
During a press conference on Friday, Ashok Bhattacharya, chairman of the BoA at SMC, said that a case has been filed against the protestors who have vandalized SMC vehicles. He said that the agitators are forcing the permanent employees of SMC to stop working. However, such behaviour will not be tolerated in any way.
He further said that the permanent employees have been asked to join work and they must work according to the service conditions. Besides, the salaries of temporary employees will be deducted.
Reportedly, SMC is likely to hold a meeting with 3 trade unions tomorrow to discuss a pay hike. The permanent employees will join work from tomorrow. If anyone obstructs to carry out cleanliness work, the police will take strict action.
