Darjeeling, 26th July: Darjeeling town was completely closed today i.e. the first day of the seven days lockdown called by the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) as a containment measure.
Excluding essential services, all shops, both government and private offices were shut down.
Meanwhile, strict monitoring is being kept by the police in various parts of the town since this morning. Scarce to no vehicles were sighted on the road.
It is to recall, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Chairman Anit Thapa announced a complete lockdown in the municipal areas of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong and Mirik for 07 days – starting July 26, in light of the increasing number of novel coronavirus positive cases in the hills.
