Darjeeling MP Raju Bista engaged in a fruitful discussion today with Minister of Urban Affairs and Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep S. Puri, to address pertinent regional concerns. During the meeting, MP Bista emphasized the issue of price disparities between the hills and plains for domestic gas cylinders, affecting residents in the hill region due to geographical factors. Additionally, he drew attention to distributors charging an extra delivery fee without providing doorstep delivery services. In response, Minister Puri expressed his commitment to promptly investigate the matter and take necessary steps to resolve the issue.
MP Bista also expressed his appreciation for the government’s financial support towards drinking water projects in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Mirik Municipalities, and Siliguri Municipal Corporation. Seeking an update on the funding status for the Drinking Water Project in Kurseong Municipality, MP Bista was informed by the Minister that an inquiry would be conducted, and he would provide an update within the coming week. Furthermore, Minister Puri reiterated the government’s dedication to ensuring 100% drinking water connectivity in Kurseong and all other Municipalities in the region by allocating the required funds and support.
Another concern raised by MP Bista was the delay and inadequate implementation of the AMRUT Scheme under Darjeeling Municipality, despite the Central Government’s allocation of Rs 204.84 crore. In response, Minister Puri assured the MP that he would thoroughly examine the matter, expedite the project’s execution, and initiate an inquiry or audit if necessary.
