Darjeeling MP Raju Bista commends fast-tracked justice in Matigara schoolgirl murder case

Darjeeling, 07th September: In a press release, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista praised the swift justice served in the heinous murder of a minor girl in Matigara, who was killed while returning from school. The crime, which shocked the region, sparked widespread outrage and solidarity across Siliguri, Darjeeling hills, Terai, and Dooars, resulting in the case being fast-tracked.


The fast-track court found the accused, Mohammad Abbas, guilty and sentenced him to death. MP Bista highlighted the role of swift and scientific investigations, as well as the expedited prosecution, in restoring public faith in the judicial process.

He extended his gratitude to Siliguri Police and the investigating officer for presenting a strong case. Bista also commended the Joint Action Committee, which brought together citizens, NGOs, social organizations, schools, colleges, and individuals who stood in solidarity with the victim’s family and demanded justice. Special thanks were given to Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose for personally visiting the victim’s family and ensuring the case’s fast-tracking.


Bista emphasized that the unity shown by citizens in this case has inspired similar solidarity across the state, and underscored the collective responsibility to ensure a safe and secure environment for every child. He urged continued vigilance and unity against all forms of crime.
