Siliguri, 15th July: The Darjeeling District Legal Aid Forum is set to organize a Two-Day Terai Football Festival in celebration of their 25th anniversary. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Siliguri Journalists Club on Monday.
The football festival, part of the silver jubilee celebrations of the Legal Aid Forum, will take place on July 16 and 17, featuring 16 teams. Amit Sarkar, Chairman of the organization, highlighted their efforts in reducing crimes such as drug addiction and child trafficking in the tea plantation areas. The festival aims to engage the youth from these communities in positive activities.
Dr. Sandeep Sengupta, Dean of North Bengal Medical College and the main sponsor of the event, emphasized that the lack of education in tea garden areas contributes to rising crime rates. He commended the Legal Aid Forum for their initiatives to prevent crime, with the football festival being a key part of these efforts.
