Siliguri, 27th July: The Darjeeling District Health Workers’ Union threatened to go on strike if they do not receive their salaries and arrears immediately. Health workers have already handed over a 9-point memorandum to the commissioner of Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
The health workers said that they have had their allowances pending for the last two months. They have not received the dengue survey money since 2020 and are still deprived of COVID vaccination.
Besides, the state government has not yet paid two lakh rupees for the retired workers and one lakh rupees for the COVID-affected health workers. All these arrears should be paid immediately, the union has demanded.
Shefali Bhattacharya, secretary of the organization, said they would be forced to go on strike if the state government does not sympathize with their demands immediately.
