Siliguri, 06th May: The Darjeeling District Congress Committee submitted a memorandum to the SDO, with an appeal to initiate the process of bringing the stranded laborers and patients back to their respective homes.
In this context, the Committee Secretary Alokesh Chakraborty stated that the State government has already stepped forward to send the laborers stranded in West Bengal back to their respective states. He further alleged that despite being aware of the matter that numerous people from West Bengal are stranded in different states ever since the nation-wide lockdown has been imposed, the government overlooked the issue and has yet taken no initiative to bring them back home.
Chakraborty further maintained that the government asked the stranded laborers to apply for repatriation through an online portal, however, the helpless laborers complained that the process is difficult and therefore, failed to apply through the said portal. Intending to help them, a memorandum was submitted to the SDO urging the state government to make the application process more convenient and also initiate the process of bringing the laborers back home.
Meanwhile, the SDO assured of discussing the matter with the State government and will likely provide a settlement soon.
