Siliguri, 14th May: A 6-point demands memorandum was submitted on behalf of the Darjeeling District Congress Committee to District Magistrate S. Ponnambalam. The memo highlighted the problems being faced by the common people while seeking medical help amid the pandemic in the entire district.
Congress leader Shankar Malakar submitted a memorandum to the DM in support of several demands. He alleged that the private hospitals are charging hefty amount to the common people in the name of treatment. He requested that a special supervision committee be set up to oversee these private hospitals. In addition, the number of beds for COVID-19 patients in both government and private hospitals should be increased. He also demanded that an adequate supply of vaccination and oxygen should be provided in hospitals.
