Siliguri, 28th December: A cyclist was killed in a tragic road accident near Dhakeshwari Kali Mandir, located along the Eastern Bypass. The deceased has been identified as Ratan Sarkar, a resident of the Niranjan Nagar area in Ward No. 36 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
According to reports, the accident occurred late Friday night when Ratan Sarkar was riding his bicycle. Meanwhile, a four-wheeler, traveling from the opposite direction, collided with him and dragged him for several hundred meters. The impact of the collision left the cyclist severely injured. Locals immediately rushed to the scene, rescued him, and took him to Siliguri District Hospital for treatment.
However, despite medical efforts, Ratan Sarkar succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle responsible for the accident fled the scene after the incident. Police from Ashighar Outpost and Bhakti Nagar Traffic Guard quickly arrived and initiated an investigation into the matter.
Locals complain due to the lack of streetlights the area has been prone to frequent accidents. They demanded that the administration promptly pay attention to the issue.
