CPI(M) stages protest at BDO office in Naxalbari over alleged harassment in SIR hearings

Naxalbari, 28th January: Members of the CPI(M) Naxalbari Area Committee staged a protest march and submitted a memorandum at the BDO office, alleging harassment of residents in the name of “logical discrepancies” during SIR hearings. The protest was held at the main gate of the SIR hearing center at the BDO office.

The protesters claimed that ordinary people, including migrant workers, minorities, and residents of remote areas, are being called repeatedly for hearings, causing unnecessary harassment. They demanded that the hearings be conducted at booth-level centers to minimize inconvenience.

CPI(M) members also raised concerns over harassment of migrant workers, selective summoning of minority residents, and recent allegations against a BLO for accepting money to conduct SIR hearings. The memorandum called for legal action against the accused BLO.

Gautam Ghosh, District Secretary of CITU, warned that the organization would intensify its movement if these demands are not met.
