CPIM demanded compensation for the victims of Balasan incident

Siliguri, 16th May: Three teenagers tragically lost their lives, while another sustained injuries when a sand dune collapsed near Matigara’s Balasan river. Following this incident, a case was registered with the National Green Tribunal, which subsequently ordered a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the deceased and Rs 5 lakh for the injured party. However, even after two months have passed since the incident, the victims and their families are yet to receive the compensation.

Ashok Bhattacharya, a leader from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), voiced his concerns over this matter. On May 6, the District CPIM submitted a letter to the District Magistrate, urging immediate compensation to be provided to the affected individuals. In light of the delay in disbursing the compensation, Ashok Bhattacharya questioned the authorities’ failure to comply with the court’s order, raising the issue during a press conference held today.

The left leader emphasized the urgent need to grant compensation to the families of the deceased and injured victims without further delay. He warned that if necessary action is not taken promptly, he would seek legal intervention to ensure justice for the affected parties.
