Siliguri, 29th November: The Darjeeling District CPI(M) has called for a sit-in protest on November 29, accusing the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) of corruption.
The announcement was made by Darjeeling District CPI(M) Convenor Jibesh Sarkar during a press conference held at Anil Biswas Bhavan in Siliguri on Tuesday. CPI(M) District Secretary Saman Pathak and Ward No. 45 Councillor Munshi Nurul Islam were also present at the event.
Jibesh Sarkar highlighted the ongoing water crisis in Siliguri, calling it a daily issue, and alleged widespread corruption within the Municipal Corporation. He stated that opposition voices raising these concerns in board meetings are being silenced. He also criticized Mayor Gautam Deb for failing to provide satisfactory responses to the allegations.
As part of the protest, a procession will begin from Anil Biswas Bhavan, culminating in a rally and protest meeting outside the Municipal Corporation on November 29.
