Alipurduar, 25th July: In a shocking episode of intolerance for each other, a couple committed suicide after an argument in the Bhatibari Khalishamari area under Samuktala police station of Alipurduar district. The deceased couple has been identified as Rajesh Dey (40) and Vijaya Dey (35).
According to sources, a dispute broke out between the duo over their son’s birthday celebrations. Allegedly, in the course of the conflict, Vijaya (the wife) poured kerosene oil and tried to set herself on fire. Unable to bear such a sight her husband Rajesh committed suicide by hanging himself from a noose in a nearby segun orchard.
Upon receiving the news, Officer-In-Charge of Bhatibari Police Outpost Partho Barman, Officer-In-Charge of Samuktala Police Station Biraj Mukherjee and Sub-divisional Police Officer Qutbuddin Khan rushed to the spot shortly after.
In this context, Biraj Mukherjee stated that he interacted with the family members of the deceased individuals. The bodies have been recovered and sent for post-mortem. Police have launched an investigation into the whole incident.
