Cooch Behar, 03rd December: The businessmen protested by blocking the road in Cooch Behar’s Rash Mela demanding permission for hawkers to set up shop along the roadside.
As per reports, the businessmen claimed to have been engaged in business activities along the road on the footpath in Rash Mela for a long time and paid taxes to the Municipality. However, since last year, they were allegedly not permitted to do business. On Saturday, the police administration allegedly removed their shops from the footpath, prompting the protests.
In this regard, the businessmen demanded that they should be allowed to do business in the Rash Mela. Upon receiving the news, Cooch Behar Dakshin Assembly constituency MLA Nikhil Ranjan Dey met and spoke to the traders. The MLA stated that traders have been doing business in this historic Rash Mela of Cooch Behar and questioned the reason behind the sudden removal. He added that the matter will be discussed with the Municipality Chairman and Minister of the concerned department to resolve the issue.
