Controversy erupts over deaths due to faulty saline in Bengal, MLA Shankar Ghosh files FIR

Siliguri, 14th January: The death of a pregnant woman in Midnapore after receiving a Ringer Lactate saline has sparked widespread controversy in West Bengal. On Tuesday, MLA Shankar Ghosh from Siliguri filed an FIR at the Siliguri Police Station against West Bengal Pharmaceutical Saline.

Reportedly, several maternal deaths due to the same saline solution were reported the previous year. Despite earlier warnings to the health department, the saline continued to be used in medical colleges and hospitals across the state.

Following the tragic death in Midnapore, public outrage has surged over the use of the problematic saline. In response, MLA Shankar Ghosh filed the FIR, condemning the use of the “blacklisted” saline and calling it a criminal act. He urged that those responsible face severe punishment. Ghosh further stated that he would discuss further steps with the leader of the opposition.
