Siliguri, 28th November: Upon completion of Bailey Bridge construction work, a trial run was carried out today by passing a 47-ton dumper, JCB, and truck over the bridge to test the strength of the bridge. The report will be sent to Delhi by PWD officials.
It has been learned that construction work of Bailey Bridge was being carried out for last one month, which has been completed today. Meanwhile, special attention is being paid to traffic arrangements on the bridge.
According to the information received from the sources, after the completion of the trial run, the Bailey Bridge will be opened for the common people from December 01. However, only cars, city autos, bikes, and 32-seater school buses will be allowed to ply on the bridge. Trucks and buses will have to travel through Noukaghat, Medical more.
The trial run was carried out today by a dumper, three tippers, a JCB with a total weight of 47 tonnes, said Risaf Basnet, engineer constructing the Bailey Bridge. He said that during the trial run, PWD officials have prepared their report, based on which, the movement of vehicles on the bridge will be determined.
