Congress’ INTUC agitate demanding salary hike

Siliguri, 10th January: Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), the trade union wing of the Indian National Congress, rallied demanding a salary hike.

The agitation took place under the leadership of the Municipal Employees’ Association, Soumen Das Roy, demanding to increase the salary of temporary employees of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, on Friday.

In the absence of Mayor Ashok Bhattacharya, a memorandum was submitted on behalf of the organization to Deputy Mayor Ram Bhajan Mahato. The president of the organization, Soumen Das Roy, said that the temporary employees of the SMC were not getting a proper salary.

The organization said that the Mayor had earlier assured of hiking the salary of temporary employees. They alleged that despite repeated reminders from the organization, no further steps were taken by the concerned department. Roy further said that if the demands are not met soon, the organization will launch a larger movement.

At the same time, Deputy Mayor Ram Bhajan Mahato said that the demands of the organization will be discussed.
