Jalpaiguri, 30th January: A fresh cold spell has returned to Jalpaiguri, bringing a sharp drop in temperature and dense fog conditions across the district from the early hours of Friday.
Since late Thursday night, thick fog has enveloped the area, with no sign of the sun even in the morning hours. The temperature dipped to around 12 degrees Celsius on Friday morning, catching residents off guard after several days of rising day and night temperatures that had created an early sense of winter’s departure.
The sudden return of cold has once again intensified winter conditions, with people seen lighting fires along roadsides to keep warm. Tea stalls witnessed heavy footfall as residents gathered for warmth and hot beverages.
Due to reduced visibility caused by dense fog, vehicles on national highways were seen moving with headlights on, raising concerns over road safety. The renewed chill has brought back the full winter ambience, which people across North Bengal are once again experiencing.
