CM Mamata Banerjee’s three-day North Bengal tour from January 16, city under tight security

Siliguri, 15th January: Administrative preparations are in full swing ahead of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s three-day North Bengal tour, starting from 16th January. The city is being adorned with banners and posters by party workers welcoming the Chief Minister, while the police have put stringent security measures in place across Siliguri.


Siliguri Police Commissioner has directed DD, SOG, IB, and DIB teams to monitor every part of the city. Heavy police deployment, including RAF teams, will be stationed at key locations, with additional surveillance using drones. Tight security arrangements have been made, particularly in Matigara and Uttar Kanya. During the Chief Minister’s stay at Uttar Kanya, both roads near the Mini Secretariat will be closed. At Matigara, the security arrangements for the Mahakal Mandir foundation-laying ceremony will include a special women’s unit and Pink Patrolling Van. Traffic management has also been strengthened.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will arrive in Siliguri on Friday afternoon. She will participate in the foundation-laying ceremony of the Mahakal Mandir in Matigara before proceeding directly to Uttar Kanya for an overnight stay. On Saturday, she will inaugurate the newly constructed building of the Calcutta High Court’s Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench.


Ahead of the tour, Siliguri Police Commissioner C Sudhakar instructed DCP (Traffic) Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed, along with ADCP and ACP officials, to inspect the venue at Matigara and assess traffic, parking, and security arrangements from Matigara to Chandmuni. The route from Bagdogra to the Matigara event venue has been carefully planned, with administrative officers coordinating closely with the DCP. Restrictions on goods vehicle movement have been increased to ensure smooth and secure passage for the Chief Minister.
