CM Mamata Banerjee launches second phase of ‘Banglar Bari’ scheme in Matigara virtually from Singur

Siliguri, 28th January: Ahead of the Bengal Assembly elections, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee virtually inaugurated the second phase of the ‘Banglar Bari’ (Rural Housing) scheme in Matigara from Singur. The programme connected multiple areas across the state through virtual links. Under this ambitious state government initiative, financially weaker and needy families will receive a total financial assistance of ₹1.20 lakh for constructing permanent houses, distributed in two installments of ₹60,000 each.


According to official data, over 12 lakh permanent houses have been completed across the state in Phase-1. In the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad area, the first installment was distributed to 5,167 beneficiaries across four blocks, out of which 5,068 houses have already been constructed.

Phase-2 includes a total of 11,436 beneficiaries. Of these, 10,846 will receive the first installment through DBT, amounting to ₹65.076 crore. The remaining beneficiaries will receive assistance after completion of verification and validation procedures.


The virtual inauguration programme was held at the Mayadevi Club ground in Matigara, attended by Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb, District Magistrate Manish Mishra, Police Commissioner C. Sudhakar, and several senior administrative officials and public representatives. On the occasion, approval letters and land pattas were handed over to several beneficiaries.

Speakers highlighted that the ‘Banglar Bari’ scheme provides secure, dignified, and permanent housing to poor families, while also promoting social and economic empowerment.
