Siliguri, 06th December: Naxalbari’s Sebdella Jote made it to the headlines after a case regarding drinking water issues was registered at the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of the high court. The residents of the village were facing acute drinking water issues prompting them to take the legal course.
According to reports, the village of Naxal uprising leader Kanu Sanyal has been facing water issues for a long time. On Tuesday, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay took note of the grievances of the residents of the village in the court. Following this, the Judge summoned government officials and the PHE contractor to the court on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived at Siliguri, on this day, and assured resolving the issue soon. Earlier, upon landing at the Bagdogra airport, the CM was notified of the issue by the DM and Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb.
In this regard, the CM stated that earlier the said village was under former BJP MP SS Ahluwalia, however, no work was done. She added that the responsibility to provide water supply is currently under the PHE and the works for the same are currently underway. The CM further stated that as the work is in progress, water tanks will be provided to the village by Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC).
