Cloudburst triggers flash floods along Teesta River in Sikkim

Sikkim has been lashed with flash floods due to the inclement weather. The Lachen Valley has reportedly been tremendously impacted as a result of the flash flood. The Sigtam Indreni Bridge along the Teesta River has suffered severe damage.


According to reports, the Sikkim administration has issued a high alert to the locals with roads being vigorously washed away. The India Meteorological Department stated that Chungthang dam located in Sikkim overflowed causing the Teesta River to swell. Following the sudden flood, at least 23 Army personnel are reportedly missing. In addition, significant portions of the NH-10 have been severely damaged.
