Clash between Nisith and Udayan! TMC calls for a 24-hour shutdown in Dinhata

Cooch Behar, 20th March: Tension escalated in Dinhata of Cooch Behar district after a scuffle broke out between Union Minister of State (MoS) Nisith Pramanik and State Minister Udayan Guha on Tuesday night. The discord led to the shutdown of shops in Dinhata and adjoining areas while the police have been monitoring the situation on the streets since Wednesday morning.


It is to be noted that around 9 PM on Tuesday, a massive altercation erupted between Union MoS Nisith Pramanik and State Minister Udayan Guha. The dispute escalated into a brawl and several party members suffered injuries during the clash. Meanwhile, the police had to exert considerable effort to control the situation. In addition, police Officer Dhiman Mitra suffered a head injury and was transported to the Dinhata Sub Divisional Hospital. Upon receiving the news, District Superintendent of Police Dyutiman Bhattacharya also arrived at the scene.

After the incident, the BJP party accused TMC members of attacking and throwing stones and bombs at Nisith Pramanik’s convoy. On the other hand, the TMC alleged that the central forces and BJP workers had jointly halted the convoy and attacked it. Following this, State Development Minister Udayan Guha called for a 24-hour shutdown in Dinhata. Meanwhile, the BJP has called for a siege of the office of District Superintendent of Police


The impact of the shutdown is visible throughout Dinhata as the shops in the area are shut since Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, Governor CV Anand Bose has sought a report on the entire incident and is further visiting Cooch Behar later on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the entire incident led to an atmosphere of political rift in the area.
