Siliguri, 05th January: During a press conference on Wednesday, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Darjeeling district secretary Saman Pathak stated that CITU will issue a memorandum to the Siliguri SDO tomorrow demanding a permanent solution for e-rickshaws (Toto) drivers.
Pathak said that totos have been restricted on the city’s national highways since January 01. As a result, hundreds of toto drivers are facing extreme difficulties. He alleged that there is a political motive behind this step. Different political parties have taken this decision by putting pressure on different departments.
It is to recall that in December, Minister Goutam Deb held a press conference and declared that totos without permanent number plates will not be allowed to ply on the city’s main roads from January 1. Besides, the High Court further directed that no totos will run on National highways.
