Child treatment fund collection scam exposed in Siliguri, locals hand suspect to police

Siliguri, 27th December: A man accused of collecting money in the name of a child’s medical treatment by posing as a representative of a fake organisation was detained by local residents and handed over to the police in Siliguri. The incident took place on Road Number Two in the Shaktigarh area.


According to local sources, the individual was moving around the area seeking financial contributions, claiming the funds were required for a child’s treatment. Residents grew suspicious of his activities and questioned him. When inconsistencies were found in his statements, locals detained the man and informed the police.

Police from NJP police station reached the spot and took the accused into custody before bringing him to the police station for further questioning.


Local resident Kaustab Dutta stated that similar groups had visited the neighbourhood earlier and collected money using the same method. He expressed suspicion that the incident could be part of an organised racket.

Police have launched an investigation into the matter to determine whether the accused is linked to a larger fraud network.
